From Ushuaia to Tecka
Back in Ushuaia we are happy that our WoMo is safely waiting for us at the parking lot!
We cross the Argentina-Chile border pretty quick with only minimal losses (3 lemons are confiscated). After a stopover in Cerro Sombrero we leave Tierra del Fuego with the first ferry crossing the Magellan Strait to Patagonia. After another hour driving in Chile, we are back in Argentina.
After the magnificent mountain landscape around Ushuaia, we are back in the semi-desert and drive again through the pampa for days - known as a subtropical grass steppe. We see hundreds of guanacos.
The temperature is rising day by day - just recently we had freezing temperatures in the Antarctic, now we already have 22°C on the small island of Pavon. We are currently at the corresponding latitude of Frankfurt!
Cruising further north through the pampas - the thermometer shows meanwhile 32°C! In addition to hundreds of guanacos, we see many greater rheas and 2 of the rare armadillos.
Back on the Atlantic coast, just before Rada Tilly we discover hundreds of sea lions lying on the beach just next to the highway - what a spectacle!
At Comodoro Rivadavia we leave the coast and drive inland. For the next 100 miles one oil field follows the next. Behind Sarmiento we hit the famous Ruta 40 again.

From El Bolson to San Martin de los Andes
After another 150 km of driving we reach the former hippie village of El Bolsón - today a nice place with a good tourist infrastructure and famous for its hops and beer!
After a long time we are enjoying a beautiful campsite - with 3 types of draft beer at the reception!
North of town is one of the few possibilities to refill our propane tank at a gas distribution center. In Bariloche we get a crack in our windshield repaired - afterwards we can relax and explore the city.

Bariloche is the largest city in the province and an important tourist center due to the beautiful mountain landscape. Furthermore, the place is famous for its ski area at Cerro Cathedral.
A German settler built the first house here in 1895, and today about a million tourists visit the city every year, which is teeming with chocolate shops.
We make ourselves comfortable on a beautiful campsite by the lake just outside the city. The next day we take the gondola up to Cerro Otto - the local mountain of Bariloche with a panoramic rotating restaurant and a fantastic panoramic view of Bariloche, the lake landscape and the Andean chain.
Then we move on to Villa La Angostura - a small, nice, manageable town also located on Lake Nahuel Huapi. We take an excursion boat to the end of the Quetrihué peninsula to the Los Arrayanes National Park, which is famous for its unique myrtle forest. The extremely slow growing, narrow trees are up to 600 years old and have a height of up to 20 meters. We are the only ones to hike the 12 km back to Villa La Angostura - everyone else goes by boat - a wonderful hiking trail!
The next day we drive along the scenic “Road of the Seven Lakes”, which connects Villa La Angostura with San Martin de los Andes, a wonderful route: mountains, extensive forests and impressive lakes!
San Martín de los Andes itself is located on Lácar Lake in a beautiful mountain landscape and is one of the most popular holiday resorts in the region. We stroll through the city and feel very comfortable - cozy, well-kept, many wooden houses, relaxed atmosphere. And again there are many chocolate shops, similar to Bariloche!
